“BANH MI AND GOI CUON FEAST” – AN ENGAGING THEME IN THE MONTHLY MEETING OF THE ENGLISH SPEAKING CLUB
At 2:00 PM on December 19th, 2024, at Lecture Hall 7, the English Speaking Club, under the Foreign Languages Division, Faculty of Social Sciences, Bac Lieu University, successfully hosted its December meeting with the theme “Banh Mi and Goi Cuon Feast.”
Overview of the meeting
The meeting was graced by the presence of Ms. Jessica Tran, M.A., a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant from the U.S.; Mr. Duong The Bao, M.A., the ESC’s leader student Pham Ngoc Anh, the ESC’s deputy leader; and over 80 club members.

The club was also honored to welcome representatives from the Bac Lieu Provincial Youth Union and reporters from Bac Lieu Radio and Television Station, who came to document the meeting promoting foreign language learning and celebrating Vietnamese Students’ Day on January 9th.

The session began with MCs Lam Van Quy and Nguyen Huynh Anh Khoa from classes 15DTA2 and 17DNNA2, introducing two iconic Vietnamese dishes: banh mi and goi cuon. These are renowned street foods, highly appreciated by both domestic and international diners for their delicious taste, nutritional value, convenience, and affordability.
Club members learned about the origins, preparation methods, flavors, cultural significance, and global influence of these two dishes in Vietnamese cuisine.

The December session also served as an occasion for members to wish Ms. Jessica a happy birthday, presenting her with gifts and expressing their gratitude for the valuable knowledge on culture, cuisine, and education she had shared, enriching their understanding and experiences.

In addition, the club meeting featured fun and engaging activities such as guessing the names of Vietnamese dishes and a cooking contest where members prepared banh mi and goi cuon.

Many prizes were awarded to members participating in the games.
It is hoped that the ESC will continue to receive love and support from its members while attracting more interest from students both within and outside the Division, maintaining its role as a platform for connection, exchange, learning, and practicing English communication skills effectively.
